General Administration

Q: I am behind the MISappliance but when I type https://amigobox.com I get a “Page cannot be displayed” error. What should I do?
Q: How do I view statistics and reports from my MISappliance?
Q: How do I configure Internet Explorer to use the Web Proxy?
Q: How can I block Internet access to computers behind my MISappliance?
Q: I don’t know the IP address of a computer. How can I find it?
Q. How can I see the DHCP assignments in my LAN?

 

Q: I am behind the MISappliance but when I type https://amigobox.com I get a “Page cannot be displayed” error. What should I do?

- Type the IP address of the MISappliance and see if you can access to the web site. If you can:
o Change the DNS settings of your workstation to show the MISappliance as the DNS server
- If you cannot access to the web site even if you type the IP address, call customer support and a customer representative will help you to fix the problem

Q: How do I view statistics and reports from my MISappliance?

A: Follow the instructions below.

- Go to MISappliance web site by typing https://amigobox.com
- Log in as administrator.
- Click on View Statistics and Reports.
- Click on View General Reports.
- When you click on any of those graphics, you will see the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly graphics.

Q: How do I configure Internet Explorer to use the Web Proxy?

A: Follow the instructions below.

- Open an Internet Explorer
- Go to Internet Options from the Tools menu
- Go to Connections tab and click LAN settings
- Check “Use Proxy Server” box and type “amigobox.com” in the textbox labeled address
- Type “8080” in the textbox labeled Port
- Click OK to complete the proxy setup

Q: How can I block Internet access to computers behind my MISappliance?

A: Follow the instructions in order to block Internet access to a computer on your LAN.

- Open your browser and go to https://amigobox.com
- Click on Control Panel and log in as administrator
- Click on Control Internet Access
- Enter the IP address of the computer that you want to block the Internet access

Q: I don’t know the IP address of my computer. How can I find it?

A: To find the IP address of a computer running Win 95-98:

- Go to Start > Run
- Type “winipcfg” and a window will appear with your IP address. If you see zeros, you will need to select your appropriate network adapter

To find the IP address of a computer running Win 2000, NT or XP:

- Go to Start > Run
- Type “command” in order to open a command prompt
- Type “ipconfig”

Q. How can I see the DHCP assignments in my LAN?

A. Follow the instructions below.

- Open your browser and go to https://amigobox.com
- Click on Control Panel and log in as administrator
- Click on View Statistics and Reports
- Click on View DHCP Assignments

 

 

VPN Client

Q: How do I setup a VPN account?
Q: I am using Windows 98 and having trouble during the VPN authentication. What should I do?
Q. I am using Windows 2000 and I don’t know how to set up a VPN connection.


Q: How do I setup a VPN account?

A: The administrator can control this function at the MISappliance Control Panel. In order to create a VPN account:

- Open your browser and go to https://amigobox.com
- Click on Control Panel and log in as administrator
- Click on Manage VPN accounts
- Click on Add a new account and then enter the username and password to create the VPN account.

Q: I am using Windows 98 and having trouble during the VPN authentication. What should I do?

A: During the VPN authentication, Win98 adds domain names to your user name. As an example, instead of sending “user”, it sends “domain\\user” and because of this bug in Win98, the MISappliance does not authenticate the user and gives an error. In order to get this problem fixed, please email support@itamigo.com with your username for the VPN connection. A customer representative will contact you as soon as the problem is fixed.

Q. I am using Windows 2000 and I don’t know how to set up a VPN connection.

A. From the Start menu, click on Settings, Network and Dial-up Connections, Make New Connection, and follow the wizard.

When requested, select “Do not dial initial connection” if you have a permanent connection to the Internet, or you want to use VPN after connecting manually through your modem. For the “Hostname or IP address” section, enter your MISappliance’s external IP address or External Access Hostname (on page 4 of your user manual). Answer the next questions depending on your choice and finish. Now you are ready to connect.


Remote Control

Q: How can I connect to my computer remotely?

Q: What should I do in order to test if the Remote Control is working or not?
Q: I opened a remote control account on amigobox web site, installed VNC (Remote Control Server) but I still cannot connect to it.
Q: I want to test the remote control from home but when I type https://amigobox.com I get a “Page cannot be displayed” error.


Q: How can I connect to my computer remotely?

A: There are 3 steps that you have to do in order to use remote control.

- Open a Remote Control user account on MISappliance web site
- Download Remote Control Server (VNC) program from MISappliance web site and install it
- Log-on and test from the Internet (outside of LAN)

Q: How can I open a Remote Control user account?

A: Follow the instructions below.

- Log –on to your browser from within your Local Area Network and type: https://amigobox.com
- Click on Control Panel and enter your administrator user name and password
- Click on Manage Remote Control Accounts
- Click on Add a New Account
- Enter your user name, password and the IP address of the computer that you want to control (e.g. 172.16.1.23)

Q: How can I download the Remote Control Server program?

A: Follow the instructions below.

- Log –on to your browser from within your Local Area Network and type: https://amigobox.com
- Click on Download Center
- Click on Remote Control Server in order to save it to your computer

Q: I downloaded the Remote Control Server program. Now what?

A: Follow the instructions below.

- Double click and install it to your computer by following the installation wizard
- After the installation, go to: Start > Programs > VNC > Administrative Tools > Install WinVNC Service
- Then go to: Start > Programs > VNC > Run WinVNC (App. Mode)
- Enter the same password that you used while creating the remote access account from the MISappliance web site.

Q: What should I do in order to test if the Remote Control is working or not?

A: Follow the instructions below.

- Open a web browser and type https://ExternalAccessHostname (check page 4 of your user manual to find out what your external access hostname is)
- Click on Remote Access
- Enter your user name and password
- Within your browser window, the desktop you set-up the remote user account will appear, giving you access to everything you see within that window.

Q: I opened a remote control account on MISappliance web site, installed VNC (Remote Control Server) but I still cannot connect to it.

A: Make sure that:

- The password that you entered for opening a remote control account and the password that you entered on VNC are the same
- VNC is running on the computer that you are trying to connect (you should be able to see it on the system tray)
- You are outside of the LAN. You cannot test it if you are behind the MISappliance.

Q: I want to test the remote control from home but when I type https://amigobox.com I get a “Page cannot be displayed” error.

A: You can access to the MISappliance web site by typing https://amigobox.com only if you are behind the MISappliance. From home (or anywhere else), type https://ExternalAccessHostname (check page 4 of your user manual to find out what your external access hostname is) and you will see the remote control option.

Q: How do I manage the email accounts?

Q: I logged on MISappliance web mail but there aren’t any emails in my inbox even though I am sure I have received some.
Q: I am receiving junk emails from someone. Is there anyway to prevent this?

 

Q: How do I manage the email accounts?

A: The administrator can manage the email accounts at the MISappliance Control Panel https://amigobox.com

Once you login as administrator, you will have access to Manage Mail Accounts option. You can add a new account, edit an existing account and remove an existing account through this option.

Q: How do I receive my email using a web browser?

A: You can connect to your corporate email via any browser from anywhere via any workstation attached to the Internet.

Once you created the new user at the MISappliance Control Panel, you can access to your mailbox by following the instructions below.

- Open your browser and go to https://ExternalAccessHostname (check page 4 of your user manual to find out what your external access hostname is)
- Click on Web Mail
- Enter your user name and password

Q: I logged on MISappliance web mail but there aren’t any emails in my inbox even though I am sure I have received some.

A: MISappliance is your physical mail server, and all your mail comes to the MISappliance and stays there until you download them into your computer. Whenever you check your mail using mail client programs such as Outlook Express or Eudora, your mail gets downloaded into your computer and removed from the MISappliance.

So, if you want to see the most recent email by using Webmail, make sure your mail client program is not running since the MISappliance shows you only the mail that is still at the MISappliance.


Q: I am receiving junk emails from someone. Is there anyway to prevent this?

A: Email support@mis-technologies.com providing the user information that is receiving the emails and the email account that is sending the junk emails. A customer representative will block that user not to send you any more emails.

 

Web Content Filtering

Q. How do I filter web content?
Q. How do I allow certain sites to be accessed?

 

Q. How do I filter web content?

A. The administrator can filter the web content at the MISappliance Control Panel. In order to do that:

- Open your browser and go to https://amigobox.com
- Click on Control Panel and log in as administrator
- Click on Filter Web Content
- Click on Manage Block List
- Add each keyword entry on a separate line

A website will be blocked if any keyword you provide here is found in its pages. Keywords may be overridden by the allow list. Note that each web browser must be configured correctly to use the proxy service for this to work properly.

Q. How do I allow certain sites to be accessed?

A. The administrator can manage the allow list. In order to do that:

- Open your browser and go to https://amigobox.com
- Click on Control Panel and log in as adminstrator
- Click on Filter Web Content
- Click on Manage Allow list
- Add each keyword entry on a separate line

A website will be allowed if any keyword you provide here is found in its pages. Keywords listed here override the block list. Note that each web browser must be configured correctly to use the proxy service for this to work properly.
